Statutory Information
Southern Universities Management Services (SUMS) is a charitable company limited by guarantee, registered in England and Wales. It was incorporated on 17 July 1992 and registered as a charity on 18 November 1994.
It is owned by its Members who are the principal beneficiaries of its services. Its main object is to promote the efficiency of the administration of educational charities in direct pursuit of their objectives by:
- Advice, training and information about financial planning, effective management procedures, and the best use of available resources, and
- Any other assistance appropriate to the provision of financial planning, procedural advice and resource management.
IT has two operating divisions: SUMS Consulting and Southern Universities Purchasing Consortium (SUPC). SUMS Consulting primarily conducts management consultancy assignments at the request of beneficiaries. SUPC primarily co-ordinates purchasing activity between its beneficiaries in order to share expertise and to achieve efficiency in purchasing.
Southern Universities Management Services is governed by a Management Committee of directors appointed by Members; this includes one appointed to represent SUPC. The members of the Management Committee are also charity trustees for the purposes of charity law.
