Organisation Structure

SUMS Consulting has worked extensively in organisational structure review and design – institutional, service, and devolved areas. We recognise that structural change is often disruptive, and in some cases fails to address other factors that impact on organisational performance.

Changes to organisational structure are proposed for a variety of reasons, such as to:

  • Apply resources more efficiently
  • Improve communication
  • Increase effectiveness and responsiveness
  • Address perceived problems with the current organisation.

To deliver the organisational structure service, we typically:

  • Set out existing structures and roles in relation to organisational aims and activities
  • Assess the structure against good practice principles and models
  • Consult with staff and service users to determine issues and alternatives
  • Set out options for future structure and roles, with intended outcomes
  • Run workshops to clarify proposals and to outline a restructuring programme.
