Participative Change

SUMS Consulting has developed a Participative Change approach for building involvement and ownership of change across the institution. This can be applied either to individual professional Services (PSC), to Processes where a number of organisational units are involved in delivery (PPC) or in Value for Money reviews (PVfM). The approach is typically used as the foundation for a wider review programme, but can be used for a ‘stand-alone’ assignment.

Participative Change is carried through by a Team made up of professional and academic staff from within the institution. Where change is carried out as part of a programme, Team Leaders are appointed from within the institution, and the panels operate under the sponsorship of a Programme Board. Where the change is undertaken on a ‘stand-alone’ basis, the Team may be led by a SUMS consultant.

For all kinds of Participative Change, proposals may cover any of policy, process, performance indicators, organisation, roles, or information systems. The deliverables will include a brief report focused on proposals, supplemented by proposed service descriptions and/or process models, performance indicators, an outline business case, and a milestone implementation plan.

A Good Practice Guide to Participative Process Change is available.
